Didn’t Ask for This: Khurana Launches ‘Khurana Kruise’ as Sober Quad-based Alternative to River Run

As an introverted freshman looking for a socially acceptable opportunity to let loose, I was jazzed for River Run. When else would I get the chance to do nine shots of Fireball for a good cause? You could say I was ready to rumble.

That’s when I heard that community-builder and Danoff Dean of Harvard College Rakesh Khurana was launching a new initiative, dubbed the “Khurana Kruise.” For just $200, blocking groups could drive around the Quad while having wholesome fun in a double-decker tour bus. Like any good Flyby reporter, I checked my inhibitions at the First Year Social Committee’s Housing Day Eve Soirée and hopped into the Khurana Kar at 7:30PM on Wednesday night.

The Bus: 10/10

“Dosas & Mimosas” on the speakers? Check. My choice of orange juice, probiotic soda, or margarita mix directly out of a bottle? Double check. Dean Khurana? Present but taking a phone call in the back with one finger in his ear.

The Destination: 0/10

The Khurana Kruise drove loops around the quadrangle lawn for three hours.

The Driver: 10/10

At one point, the driver got a little loco and did a U-turn on Garden street, completely flipping the counterclockwise direction I had grown accustomed to and giving me a transformative college experience in the process.

The Return: 10/10

After the best night of my life, I was dropped off at Annenberg at 10:45PM, chock full of memories I would cherish for the rest of my life. Everything happens for a reason — my blocking group hadn’t even left for River Run yet due to a long-running game of Jumbo Jenga.

If the Khurana Kruise is offered again this year, I’d highly recommend it. Just be careful to not go on the upper level, as my friend fell asleep up there and woke up in the MAC parking lot after we had already been assigned to Dunster.
